how inspiring! i feel blessed to have found you here, or anywhere. this has brought me to tears in knowing that the Spirit and the Wisdom flows through you and all of us and that a true, pure voice is attainable. your words are your magick.

first i must say that i have not studied the way of the ancestors in such great depth as you have, not nearly, as i am new to paganism in practice, but i feel that my naivity may lend something to you. i do have some experience in using psychedelic drugs, not as a conscious decision regarding shamanistic practice, but as recreation. one experience i had while using mushrooms was a vision of snakes, a small one eaten by a larger and ever larger one, continuously. i was 13(i am now 25), and though as i said, i was only using the drug in recreation, it was a spiritually awakening experience. you can feel free to interpret the vision in whichever way you see fit, it's not really the point. my point is that i was not meditating in preparation of having some spiritual awakening or connection to the divine. at the young age, i had no religious or spiritual goals, and yet, it came to me. the point is, though i do not currently use drugs (the sheer thought of it frightens me to my core), i can see the benifit, in being that because they take away control, the mind and spirit become open to whatever the subconcious or the spirit wants them to see, as in a dream (and maybe that is where the fear comes from). i also feel very strongly about the power of dreams, but that is another discussion entirely.

I look at dark and light as being literal term. Some people assossiate darkness with death or with evil. I view darkness and light as being neither good nor evil or maybe both at the same time. In magick I use darkness for banishing or for concealing things from those who might attempt to do me wrong. Darkness has its assossiation with death but also rebirth. Fire is light but fire can still burn you. These concepts transcend human conceptions of good or evil. They are primal forces of creation.

Im going to expand upon what I said earlier. The psychodelic path is difficult as well as dangerous. In shamanistic traditions where mind altering substances are used, the shamans eventually reach the point where such substances are no longer needed. This altered state of conciousness would considered a form of psychosis by modern psychiatrists. Madness is an important aspect of paganism. Odin for instance will often grant one of 3 different types of madness, the madness of the seer, the madness of the berserker, and the madness of the rune shaman. In using the word madness I mean an altered state of conciousness. In paganism madness in its many forms is often considered a gift. The psychodelic path is a treacherous one, and the human mind like the layers of an onion. Imagine the subconciouss mind blown wideopen. The subconciouss being the sewage pit of human thought for the most part. Imagine one's desire and fear manifesting in some nightmarish maelstrom of pleasure and pain. Psychodelic substances have their place in paganism and magick but they are potentially dangerous. Shamans train there whole life to be able handle the drugs they take as well as the madness they often inspire. Thats about all I got to say, and I apologize for the bad spelling and grammer.

Thank you for your comments. I write as a way to open my creative pathways a bit so that I can come up with new ideas. It also gives me a sounding board of sorts when people respond. I'm very glad that you are getting something out of the posts though. It really makes me feel like I'm doing some good.

Although I haven't used any psychodelic substances since 1995, and that I don't believe that they should be abused for any sort of recreational purposes, I do believe that they have merit in shamanistic tradition.

I am very glad that you found me on myspace. You're blogs are wonderful and very well written. Somethings I agree with and some I don't.......but the ones that I don't make me rethink my ideals. That is a very useful learning tool. Thank you for taking your time to write this. I am sure it is helpful to more people than you will ever realize.
